Okay, this was released in December in cities that actually have culture in order to be in the Oscars for 2005.

It will almost certainly be a shoo-in for an Oscar of some kind.

What I find interesting is that in the ads for the movie are VAGUE; they never mention that the movie is, largely, about Gay Cowboy Love. This will undoubtedly lead to a lot of good ol' boys going to the cinema together to see a cowboy movie where cowboys bond together due to the harsh cowboy life, and forge manly bonds against the backdrop of the beautiful American countryside in a time when life was simple. And these good ol' boys will be very SURPRISED.

Boondocks, however, touched upon this in early December.



He did several days on this - one of the funniest comics series I have ever seen.

So, do you think that the ads should mention the manlove going on in the film so people who *OMG, I SO DID NOT WANT TO SEE THAT!!!!!* will not have their eyes bruised through their ignorance?

Oh, and I plan to go to this the first day it is out in Cincinnati - I think that is on the 13th. The cowboys are pretty and in love. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Somehow I dont think I'm going to be going to see a movie about gay cowboys. LOL!

I think they misinterpreted the song "save a horse ride a cowboy" [img]eek.gif[/img]

(by the way, did anyone notice the Big and Rich mention "skyline chili" in their song "coming to your city"?

Lot of movies out that I wanna see though.

I actually thought "fun with Dick and Jane" was pretty funny, and "the Producers" was great. Hilarious!

Yes, greg, I assumed you would not be going to see this movie. Those who apparently need to resolve to remain heterosexual would obviously not feel comfortable going to this movie.


However, the question is, should they mention the nature of the cowboys' "special relationship" in advertising?

Oh, and a coworker just informed me that it will in fact be opening THIS weekend at a theater in or near Kenwood Mall.

I'm seriously doubting too many straight dudes are going to be duped into going to this movie.

First of all, this flick is showing only at the Esquire and Kenwood. So the yahoos in Florence and Springdale and Norwood and Clermont County - and other equally manly places - don't have to worry about inadvertently walking into a "gay cowboy" movie. I'm thinking the clientele at the Esquire and Kenwood has a tendency to be more educated and affluent than some of these other places.

Secondly, there is enough buzz about the movie that you'd almost have to live in a cave to not be aware.

Thirdly. While the buzz is that it's a gay cowboy movie, those who made it say that's not what it is.

Lastly, if a few stragglers go in...so what? People see movies all the time without being totally aware ahead of time, so should there be a hang up with this one? I think not.

From what I understand, it's a very good movie. A friend saw it recently in Indianapolis and used the word "profound" to describe the experience.

D2 and I plan to see it. It's supposed to be a VERY good movie. I, unlike Greg, don't have a problem with seeing a "gay cowboy" movie. IF the movie is good it will stand on it's own merits.

And Greg, normally I take what you post with a shot of Bushmill's but your post in this thread has to be one of the most homophobic I've ever read and quite frankly a bit insulting.

The Big Sexy and/or Dulc, if you see it, please post a review, because I doubt that we'll go. Not because of the content, but more because we just aren't movie theater people.

Last week, after not stepping foot in a theater for 2 or 3, maybe four years, we saw Munich. It was OK, but we both left with the thought that we should have waited for it to come out on DVD.

I think that most movies are so-so, and matinee prices aren't too bad for a couple of hours of entertainment. But please. $5.00 for a bag of popcorn? $3 for a bottle of water? I swear I'm going to ressurect my hippie purse days and start smuggling food into places that egregiously overcharge.

I've actually heard it's a good movie, but there are others I'd see first.

You know me, I dont care what anyone's sexual preferance is. To each his or her own.

gae, I will do that. Perhaps Reason will see it first as I cannot see it this weekend but will the next.

I have read several comments by people who have seen it, and they all said how beautiful it was, and everybody in the theater cried.


And there were comments about how the mustache did not work, but I do not understand that comment. Perhaps I will when I have seen the movie.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Movie theaters are hurting big time for the very reasons gae mentioned. I predict movie theaters - at least on the scale we see today, will become a thing of the past.

With technology becoming more and more advanced with video on demand and such, there will never be a reason to drive somewhere to see the latest flick, much less have to pay $9 per, then be subjected to a $10 payment for a coke and popcorn.

I'll probably end up seeing the movie at one time or another, but it may just be on dvd. The hype has been so overblown (no pun intended) that I'm sure to be disappointed.

I've seen a couple other Ang Lee movies which I thought were very good - "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and "The Wedding Banquet", the latter which was very funny and very touching.

I think I've seen "The Ice Storm" and "Sense and Sensibility", but they obviously didn't affect me all that much because I barely remember them.
